Every Claude account, out of the corner of your eye.
Claudin keeps one line per Claude account in a corner of your Windows desktop: a mark that moves while Claude works and blinks while it waits for you, and how much of the 5-hour and 7-day limits is used. It takes no clicks and no focus, and at rest it does nothing at all.
Four accounts at rest: a grey mark, a name, and how much of each limit is used.
What it shows
It speaks up once
- A wait is one sound, however long it lasts. A turn that stops to ask plays one quiet sound. A second question in the same turn is a second sound, and that is all.
- An ending is news only if you could have looked away. A turn that ran longer than 30 seconds sounds when it ends; a quick one, or one you interrupted, ends in silence. An error always sounds.
- A limit is one notification. Past 90% of the 5-hour limit, or 70% of the 7-day one, Windows says so once — and again only after that window has started over.
- What happened before it looked is not news. Starting Claudin announces nothing. It tells you about changes, not about the state it found.
- Quiet when Windows asks for quiet. Nothing plays over a full-screen game, video or presentation, or with notifications switched off. The eight sounds are made in code, and Windows' own can stand in for them.
Nothing to set up
What it refuses to do
- The plugin only watches. It never answers a prompt, a permission or a tool call: every event passes through unchanged. A bug in Claudin can never become a bug in your Claude Code session.
- No history. Its folder holds the present — a small file per session, gone when the session ends, and one per account. Nothing grows on your disk.
- At rest, nothing runs. No frames and no polling: a thread asleep until a file changes, and a clock that moves every 15 seconds.
- No telemetry, no account, no server. One request a day, to see whether a newer Claudin exists — and you can switch it off.
Questions
Do I have to set anything up in Claude Code?
No. Claudin carries its Claude Code plugin, and the first time it starts it looks for Claude Code
on Windows and in each WSL distro and installs the plugin wherever it finds it; a notification
says where. New sessions show up on their own, and sessions that were already open after
/reload-plugins.
Installed Claude Code somewhere new? Connect again, in the Accounts tab, looks everywhere once more.
What about claude.ai, or the desktop app’s chat?
Chat runs no plugin, so Claudin cannot see it working. Its use counts against the same limits, though, and shows the next time a Claude Code session of that account reports them. The Code tab of the desktop app is Claude Code, and shows up like a terminal does.
Could it get in the way of Claude Code?
It is built not to. Every hook passes its event on unchanged, and the two that could hold something back pass it on if Claudin itself fails. The plugin writes a few small files, and only where Claudin’s folder exists: on a machine without Claudin it does nothing at all.
Uninstalling Claudin removes the plugin from every place it put it, and asks before deleting the names you gave your accounts.
How do I move it, or make it quieter?
Unlock to move, in the tray menu, lets you drag it anywhere, and Lock puts it back to letting every click through. It remembers the nearest corner, so a longer list grows away from the edge.
In the preferences it can be fainter as a whole (Opacity), dim or leave out the accounts that are idle (Accounts at rest), lose its background, change size, and every sound can be changed or switched off. Under the pointer it all but vanishes either way: Fade under the pointer.
Windows warns me about the download.
You will see a blue window headed Windows protected your PC. The button that continues is behind More info — click that, then Run anyway. Some browsers warn about the file before that, for the same reason.
That screen is Microsoft Defender SmartScreen, and it does not mean Windows found anything wrong with Claudin. It means Windows cannot tell who made it: a publisher proves that by signing its programs with a certificate it has bought, and Claudin does not have one yet. Every new unsigned program gets this screen, however harmless it is.
You can check the file instead of taking the message’s word for it: every release
publishes a fingerprint of each download beside it, in SHA256SUMS,
and Get-FileHash in PowerShell prints the same fingerprint for a file that
arrived intact.
Does Claudin send anything anywhere?
No telemetry, no analytics, no account. Five minutes after it starts and once a day after that, it fetches a small file from this site to see whether a newer Claudin exists. That check sends nothing about you, your machine or your accounts, and Automatic updates in the preferences switches it off. Check now, in About, makes the same check when you ask for it.
Connecting Claude Code runs Claude Code’s own commands, on this machine, against a folder on
this machine. Everything Claudin knows is in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Claudin.
Which systems and languages?
Windows 10 and 11, x64, with Claude Code in a Windows terminal, in the Code tab of the Claude desktop app, or in WSL.
English, Português, Español, Deutsch, Français, Italiano, Polski, Русский, 中文, 日本語 and 한국어, following your Windows display language, with a choice in the preferences.
Claudin is free. If it has spared you a trip to a window that was only waiting for you, a donation helps keep it that way.
